What is Clearlist, and why should I use it?

Clearlist is Artlist’s new feature to help you protect your content more than ever. The good news is that if you’re already using music and assets from Artlist, they are royalty-free.

You may still get a copyright claim on your video. Avoid claims by adding your channels and videos to the Clearlist in Artlist. When you provide Artlist with links to your channels and videos, you’ll be protected from any content claims. This also means that if you get a content claim, we can manage it and remove it, usually within minutes, saving you time and hassle.

What are Copyright Claims?

Copyright is a legal term that simply means if you created or owned something, it is yours, and no one else can use it or claim ownership. A copyright claim is when someone says another person has used their content without permission.

Copyright claims can be quite a headache for digital creators and content platforms like YouTube. So, many of them have ways to ensure everyone is operating legally and content owners get the recognition they deserve. YouTube uses an automated Content ID system, Meta uses Rights Manager, etc.

What are Digital Content Management Systems?

Content platforms like YouTube, Facebook, Instagram, and others use automated systems called Digital Content Management Systems to track content added to their platforms. The software scans videos to check if they contain copyrighted content. The system is designed to help creators and owners of original music by ensuring that other people aren’t using their original content without permission.

When a video is uploaded to YouTube, it gets scanned, and if CID finds any copyrighted content, it notifies the owner. The owner can take the following actions:

  1. Ask YouTube to remove the video, meaning the content won’t be seen online.
  2. Ask YouTube to monetize the video. This means that any earnings will go to the copyright holder, not the publisher of the video.
  3. Access data from the video like viewers, performance, revenue, and more.
  4. Do nothing/release the claim.

Usually, the copyright owners will choose the second option. So any content you publish online that uses Artlist music should be added to the Clearlist to keep it safe.
