With the Artlist AI Toolkit you have access to the latest models to generate clips, but directing a video requires more control.

Artlist Studio is the first true AI production platform designed to give creators the ability to direct every shot of their dream production. You frame shots, cast characters, scout locations, and direct action — all inside one intuitive workspace. Every tool is built around creative decision-making, so you can move from idea to finished sequence with precision and consistency.

This walkthrough shows how the Artlist Studio workflow works — from the first frame to a full sequence of shots. The beauty of the Studio is that you can choose the best process for your project. Here are some ideas to get started.

Start with Scenes

Scenes is where ideas take shape. It sits on the left side of the interface and acts as your directing space. This is where you:

  • Describe frames and shots
  • Choose or create  characters and locations
  • Control composition, lighting, and camera angle
  • Direct the action and camera movement in the scene

On the right side of the screen, the timeline builds your production as you go. Each generated shot appears there, making it easy to assemble sequences and refine your story.

Together, Scenes and timeline create a workflow that feels closer to directing a production than prompting a model.

Frame your shot

This is where you generate still frames by describing who and what is in your frame — like characters and locations.

Add characters

Within Framing, you can select Add Character to choose a ready-made character from the Artlist library.

For more customization, you can also create your own.

Start by describing the person you want to cast:

  • Age
  • Gender
  • Appearance
  • Mood

The system generates up to ten possible characters in different styles and interpretations. Think of it as reviewing multiple actors for a role. Once you choose one, you move into the character refinement page, where you can shape the character further.

You can:

  • Give the character a name
  • Choose a unique voice
  • Change clothing colors
  • Add accessories
  • Adjust appearance and personality

You can generate as many iterations as you need. When the character is ready, Artlist Studio maintains visual consistency across every shot where that character appears.

Scout locations

You can do the same for locations. Select Add location in the Framing prompt box. Either choose a location from the Artlist library or simply type your prompt and describe the setting in detail. Include information like:

  • Environment
  • Atmosphere
  • Lighting
  • Color palette
  • Time of day

Prompt your shot

Once you have characters and a location, you can describe the shot. Prompts work in two modes:

Free-form prompting

Write naturally to describe the scene.

You can also type @ to quickly insert characters or locations from your catalog. For example, you might reference a character you created earlier and place them in a new environment.

Structured prompts

If you want more control, switch to structured prompt mode.

This breaks the prompt into components so you can refine each element individually.

Structured categories include:

  • Character or subject
  • Location
  • Action
  • Composition
  • Style
  • Mood

This approach makes prompts easier to adjust and iterate without rewriting the entire description.

Character and location capture

Another way to create is to generate an image first, then identify the subjects or locations within it. Artlist Studio detects these elements and lets you save them as reusable assets. For example, you might generate a scene with a person and a location. From that frame, you can save:

  • The character
  • The location

Both can then be reused, edited, or regenerated in future shots while maintaining visual consistency.

Many AI video tools don’t support this workflow, but Artlist Studio turns generated frames into building blocks you can reuse across an entire production.

Refine the shot and its composition

Framing a shot requires more than describing it. Artlist Studio gives you detailed creative controls for the shot itself. Here is a list of some of your settings you can choose in Framing.

Choose the camera perspective:

  • Low angle
  • Eye level
  • High angle
  • Overhead
  • Bird’s-eye view
  • Dutch angle
  • Over-the-shoulder

Shot type

Define framing:

  • Macro
  • Extreme close up
  • Close up
  • Medium shot
  • Full shot
  • Wide shot
  • Extreme wide shot

Lighting

Shape the mood of the scene:

  • Natural or ambient
  • Golden hour
  • Blue hour
  • Softbox or diffused
  • Hard light
  • Rim lighting
  • Volumetric
  • Noir
  • Neon or practical

Choose your camera and lens

You can also define the camera setup. Camera options include:

  • Apple iPhone 17 Pro Max: Clean, modern smartphone footage with natural color and a handheld, everyday feel.
  • RED V-Raptor: Ultra-high-resolution cinema imagery with sharp detail and bold dynamic range.
  • ARRI Alexa 35: Rich cinematic color and soft, film-like highlights favored in high-end filmmaking.
  • Sony Venice 2: Large-format cinematic visuals with deep dynamic range and natural skin tones.
  • Panavision Millennium XL2: Classic Hollywood film look with rich contrast and traditional anamorphic character.
  • VHS Camcorder: Lo-fi analog texture with soft focus, noise, and nostalgic home-video vibes.

Lens options include:

  • ARRI Signature Prime: Clean, modern cinema glass with sharp detail and smooth falloff.
  • Leica Summilux-C: Crisp, high-contrast images with premium clarity and depth.
  • Angénieux Optimo: Versatile cinema zoom look, with smooth focus and balanced contrast.
  • Sigma Cine Art: Sharp, neutral optics with modern clarity and controlled color.
  • Cooke S4/i: Warm, natural, organic “Cooke look” with gentle contrast and flattering skin tones.
  • Helios 44-2: Vintage Soviet lens famous for its distinctive swirling bokeh.
  • Lomo Anamorphic: Classic anamorphic widescreen look with oval bokeh and cinematic lens flares.

You can also choose settings like AI model, resolution, duration, and number of images for each generation.

Behind the scenes, Artlist Studio mixes models to deliver stronger styles and faster generations. The result is a workflow that feels responsive while producing high-quality visuals.

Once the frame is ready, click Generate to create your still frame.

Direct the shot

You can then move into directing mode. This is where you add motion and action to turn your still frame into a moving shot. Describe what your character does, what they say, and what happens in the scene.

You can also control the camera movement.

Camera movement

Bring motion into the shot:

  • Static
  • Pan left or right
  • Tilt up or down
  • Dolly in or out
  • Truck left or right
  • Pedestal up or down
  • Zoom in or out
  • Arc or orbit
  • Handheld
  • Tracking shot
  • Chase or follow shot
  • POV

These settings give you precise control over how the scene is captured.

If you want to iterate, you can regenerate variations while keeping the same character or location. You can also continue working on other shots while generations render. The Scenes menu makes it easy to switch between characters and scenes.

Create the next shot from a frame

One of the most powerful features of Artlist Studio is the ability to continue a sequence from a specific moment. Pause a generated video and select a frame. That frame can become the starting point for the next shot.

From there you can:

  • Continue the action
  • Change the camera movement
  • Shift composition or angle
  • Direct the scene in a new way

This frame-to-shot workflow makes it much easier to build visual continuity across a sequence. You can also define optional start and end frames to guide transitions between shots.

Build your sequence on the timeline

Every generated shot appears on the timeline on the right side of the screen.

From here you can:

  • Arrange shots into a sequence
  • Generate new variations
  • Continue scenes from specific frames

As your project grows, the timeline becomes the backbone of your production.

A production workflow built for scale

Artlist Studio isn’t just a generation tool. It’s designed to support full productions.

You can:

  • Maintain character consistency across shots
  • Reuse locations and assets
  • Direct camera, lighting, and movement
  • Continue shots from specific frames

Because everything lives in the same system, your visual language stays consistent, even as your production grows.
