After another year in which the showbiz world has been rocked, reformed and molded by online video, it was time to honor the very best creators of 2021. Stealing the headlines was, of course, MrBeast, aka Jimmy Donaldson, who secured “Creator of the Year” for the second time in a row. When you look at what MrBeast has done, it’s hard to find a more deserving winner. Meanwhile, Bella Poarch scooped the prestigious, highly-coveted “Breakout Creator,” and Bretman Rock’s “30 days With: Bretman Rock” surprised us all by beating Verzuz for “Show of the Year.”

After covering the 2021 Streamy Awards nominees, we’ll break down the full show for you, listing all the winners for every award.

How was the show?

Before we go through winners and losers, it’s worth mentioning how fun the show was to watch! Streamed live on YouTube and available to rewatch right now, the show saw hosts Larray (master of ceremonies) and Issa driving around L.A. on a bus, handing out the awards to the different creators.

Of course, this would’ve been a long bus ride if they were doing every single award. So they mixed in pre-recorded videos of some of our favorite creators handing out awards in various other categories. We were also treated to music performances from MÃ¥neskin with their hit cover of “Beggin‘” and Ari Lennox performing her RnB hit “Pressure.”

It was fun to see the whole creator community coming together for what is essentially the Oscars of YouTube. It’s a big deal worth celebrating, and we thought this year’s show did it justice. We particularly enjoyed the segments where we got to see past Streamy award winners able to honor other creators whose work had resonated with them. Heartwarming!

Now, onto the winners…

Overall awards

Creator of the year – MrBeast

Who else? Jimmy has been relentless on YouTube over the past few years, and it was hard to look past him. He already secured this award in 2020, and it’s a well-earned consecutive win for him and his whole team. His recent Squid Game recreation was simply ridiculous, deserving the award for that alone. Yet, he didn’t seem too phased on receiving the award – it’s just another day in the life of MrBeast.

Show of the year – 30 days with Bretman Rock

Beating off stiff competition from Varzuz (live on IGTV) and Vsauce3’s excellent “Could You Survive The Movies?” Bretman Rock was a surprise winner here and was a little shocked as he picked up the award on the bus. His series “30 days with Bretman Rock” sees him surviving the jungle life for 30 days, throwing up highly entertaining scenarios throughout.

International – Mythpat

In the International category, Indian YouTuber Mythpat took home the trophy. Mithilesh Patankar regularly posts comedy gaming videos to YouTube, gaining over 10 million subscribers.

Short Form – The Cheeky Boyos

The Cheeky Boyos managed to take home the short form category with their slapstick comedy and prank-inspired TikToks. Given the rise of TikTok over the past few years, this category has become increasingly competitive, so it’s a big deal for the boyos who were clearly floored by the win.

Individual awards

Breakout Creator – Bella Poarch

Announced by last year’s breakout creator Charli D’Amelio, which we thought was a nice touch, Bella Poarch took home the prestigious Breakout Creator award. In her speech, she thanked her supporters and took a moment to remark how crazy the past few years have been. Just 2 years ago, she was out at sea serving in the Navy!

Collaboration – Markiplier and CrankGameplays (Unus Annus)

This was a collaboration worthy of winning. Markiplier (Mark Fischbach) and CrankGameplays (Ethan Nestor) came together to create videos on their collaboration channel Unus Annus, with one big twist: the channel would be deleted after 1 year. Sure enough, they stuck to their guns. Over 1.5 million people watched the live stream where Fischbach and Nestor deleted the channel!

Crossover – Will Smith

It still feels weird to say that Will Smith is a YouTuber, doesn’t it? It’s pretty awesome! It felt right that the legendary actor was celebrated with this year’s crossover award, and he had to fight off serious competition, like Bill Gates, Ryan Reynolds and Hailey Rhode Bieber.

First-person – Yes Theory

Another fiercely competitive category was First Person. We can’t think of anyone more deserving than Yes Theory for this one, and it was lovely to see them receive the award from Colin and Samir – 2 other fantastic YouTubers who are doing great work (we expect to see them nominated sometime soon). The guys from Yes Theory were as humble as ever in receiving the award, but it’s about time they were recognized for the positive, uplifting work they’ve been doing on the platform for years.

Livestreamer – Valkyrae

Valkyrae was the deserved winner of the Livestreamer category. In recent years, YouTube has been taking the fight to Twitch when it comes to live streaming, and Valkyrae is another fine example of how some of the top streamers are most at home on the platform. She’s been dubbed the “Queen of YouTube,” becoming the most-watched female streamer since 2020.

Show awards

Indie Series – Chicken Shop Date (Amelia Dimoldenberg)

The concept is simple, and apparently, people love to see their favorite YouTubers and musical stars hanging out in a chicken shop! Amelia won the indie series award for her brilliant concept. We can’t wait to see more.

Live Show – VerzuzTV

Some were surprised that VerzuzTV didn’t win show of the year, but they did secure the live show award. It was hard to look past them.

Podcast – Dark History (Bailey Sarian)

Bailey Sarian’s “Dark History” took home the Streamy award for best podcast. With the YouTube platform increasingly becoming a home for podcasts in recent years, it’s nice to see the Streamy Awards recognize the hard work put in by Bailey and others. This particular show builds on her popular YouTube series “Murder, Mystery and Makeup.”

Scripted Series – Could You Survive The Movies (VSauce3)

It was great to see Jake and his team pick up the award in the Scripted Series category. Thoroughly deserved!

Unscripted series – 30 days with Bretman Rock

Bretman Rock scooped his 2nd award of the night in the best Unscripted Series. 30 days with Bretman Rock really was a big hit! We’d put money on there being a 2nd series…

Craft Awards

Cinematography – Jonna Jinton

This category was packed full with some truly exceptional, talented cinematography. It tells you everything you need to know about how good Jonna Jinton is for winning this one.

Editing – Lynn Davis

On her TikTok account, the bio reads “a regular mom with killer cooking skills,” and honestly, we couldn’t have put it any better. Lynn’s wholesome, easy-to-follow cooking TikToks are flawless, and it’s fantastic to see her editing receive recognition.

Visual and special effects – Josh King

It’s hard to look past Josh King for this one. He’s been consistently wowing us all with his jaw-dropping, “how did he do that?!” videos for many years now. But seriously, how does he do that?

Writing – The Game Theorists (Matthew Patrick & Justin Kuiper)

Matthew and Justin have been uploading some incredibly detailed, well-thought-out videos for years now. Their writing is next-level, and they deservedly took home the award for it.

Wrapping up

So, with the bus parking up and finishing its route around L.A., the Streamy Awards 2021 was wrapped. We think you’ll agree that the winners were all deserved and the competition is fiercer than ever! If there’s one thing to take away from all of this is that the creator economy is going nowhere. It’s now mainstream, fully-fledged and taking on the world. An exciting decade lies ahead.
